How to Brew Perfect Coffee: The 5 Best Methods

How to Brew Perfect Coffee: The 5 Best Methods
There's no single "right" way. But there are five classics you should know. Each has its own character. With practice, you'll develop a feel for which method suits your mood.
1. Pour Over - Clean Flavor
You slowly pour hot water over ground coffee sitting above a cup. The coffee drips through a filter. The filter removes oils, resulting in clean, crisp taste. Perfect for single-origin specialty coffees.
Instructions: Grind medium-fine. 1 part coffee to 16 parts water (e.g., 20g to 320ml). Heat water to 90-95 degrees. Pour a little first, let it bloom for 30 seconds, then pour slowly. Total 3-4 minutes.
2. French Press - Full-Bodied
Throw everything in, pour hot water, wait. Result: full-bodied, oily, intense coffee. No filter, oils stay in. This is coffee with character.
Instructions: Grind coarse. 1 part coffee to 15 parts water. Pour hot water in. Stir briefly. Wait 4 minutes. Press down slowly.
3. AeroPress - The Versatile
Looks like a chemistry experiment, works perfectly. You brew with pressure, not just gravity. Fast, full, intense. Super versatile and perfect for travel.
Instructions: Grind medium-fine. Insert filter, rinse. 17g coffee, 200ml water (95 degrees). Stir 10 seconds. Wait 1 minute. Press down slowly for 30 seconds.
4. Espresso - Intense and Concentrated
Hot water is forced through finely ground beans under high pressure. Concentrated, intense, with crema. An art form - perfect pressure, right grind, correct tamping technique - everything must align.
Instructions: Grind very fine. 18-20g in the portafilter. Tamp evenly. Warm the machine. Extract for 25-30 seconds. Golden-brown with crema.
5. Moka Pot - Southern European Classic
A classic on Italian stoves for 90 years. Water at bottom, coffee in middle, aroma on top. Heat drives water through coffee upward. Strong, concentrated, nostalgic.
Instructions: Fill water to line. Grind medium-fine, fill filter. Screw together. Medium heat. Wait for gurgling sounds. Remove from heat, cool briefly.
